Under the Straits Settlements, Penang's vehicles already wore a single P. When everyone else is being remapped in 1948, P doesn't change. After independence, P quietly expands through its sequences and reaches the three-letter stage in 1979. The letter that sat on pre-war black plates is the same letter printed on modern white-on-black acrylic today.

That continuity is the core of its appeal. A P-series plate connects several eras without a break: colonial port, post-war town, industrial hub, present-day city. No new letter, no reset. For collectors and owners, it is one of the few prefixes where the story is a clean, unbroken line.
