AKU

Series Overview

AKU is one of Malaysia's most readable special prefixes because it is already a word in Malay.

Literally, aku means “I” or “me”, so the series turns the registration number into a first-person statement.

That is why the public conversation around AKU moved quickly from ordinary plate bidding to wordplay: AKU 8055 and AKU 1305 could be read as “Aku Boss”, while AKU 1 naturally reads as “I am first”.

Perak JPJ opened bidding for the AKU series in July 2017, with golden numbers, attractive numbers and popular numbers priced in the familiar tender categories of the period. Reports at launch singled out AKU 805, AKU 8055 and AKU 1305 as unusually desirable because of the Boss reading.

When results were reported later, AKU 1 became the highest-priced plate at RM207,898, while AKU 1305 drew the most bidders and AKU 8055 became the phrase plate everyone remembered.

AKU shows how Malaysian plate value can come from language, not only digits. A low number is valuable anywhere, but AKU turns even a normal-looking number into a sentence if the digits complete the joke.

That makes the series especially strong for Malay wordplay, public identity and plates that people can decode without needing a specialist explanation.
