After a long hiatus since BBB, JPJ reintroduced the triple-letter concept with “CCC” in 2007 for Putrajaya/Federal Territory. This was part of a modernization effort to generate revenue as KL’s W plates were approaching the end of the alphabet. CCC 1-9999 were made available via tender. Public enthusiasm was high, though not as frenzied as later series like WWW. Nevertheless, CCC set the stage in the 21st century for repeating-letter plates. It was fully subscribed; an interesting anecdote is that CCC 1 was taken by a well-known property developer for RM80k+ (a hefty sum then). Many assumed “CCC” stood for “Cherish, Care, Contribute” as a tagline for road safety, but officially it was just a sequence. The series was considered a success and paved the way for DDD, etc. Today, CCC plates are around, especially in Putrajaya. They transfer normally. They may not command the same awe as AAA/BBB due to being more recent, but they’re still exclusive – only 9999 exist, and their value has appreciated. The triple-C look has a certain symmetry folks enjoy (C being a smooth curve). For historical continuity, CCC is notable as the revival of Malaysia’s fancy plate experiment in the new millennium.
