A special number plate series “E” (E 1 – E 9999) launched in late 2018. Tender ran from Nov 1 to Nov 15, 2018. Although not officially billed as an EV-only series at the time, the “E” prefix coincidentally aligned with the rise of electric vehicles. The series was privately managed by Exotic Ventures (hence E). Minimum bids ranged from RM200 (4-digit numbers) up to RM15k for single digits. With the new government’s 2018 policy ending NGO plates, E was among the last privately-run special plates. All 9999 numbers were made available. Today, E plates are relatively uncommon; they can be registered to any vehicle, including EVs. This one-off series is notable as a bridge between the NGO-driven plate era and JPJ’s later in-house special plates.
