A JPJ-launched series reserved solely for electric vehicles, rolled out in September 2024. Bidding for EV 1-9999 opened on 9 Sept 2024 via JPJ eBid. Notably, EV 1 was pre-allocated to a VVIP (announced by the Transport Minister). Unlike other special plates, the EV series is ongoing – after EV 1-9999, subsequent EV suffixes (EVA, EVB, etc.) will follow. Crucially, an EV plate can only be registered to a fully electric car (no petrol/diesel vehicles allowed). This series coincided with the introduction of the new white-green EV number plate format in Malaysia. It marked a policy shift: from now on, all newly registered EVs use the “EV” prefix. The initial auction saw solid participation, and JPJ continues to issue EV prefixes as EV adoption grows. These plates underscore the country’s push towards electrification, instantly identifying a vehicle as electric by both its special prefix and the mandated EV plate design. Key Facts: Issue Date: Sept 2024 Issuance Range: 1 - 9999 Rarity: Continuing series (will extend with EV, but exclusive to EVs) Transfer Rules: Must be registered on a full EV (non-EV use not permitted)
