Series Overview
JB was Johor's registration code when it was one of the Unfederated Malay States. In 1948 the Federation of Malaya replaced two-letter codes with single letters, and Johor became J.
JB later returned as a block in Johor's own ordinary J sequence, so a modern JB plate is a standard Johor registration. The letters also match the initials of Johor Bahru.

Frequently Asked Questions
What was Johor's plate code before J?
JB, used until the 1948 rationalisation made Johor J.
Does JB on a plate mean Johor Bahru?
Not officially. JB was Johor's pre-1948 code and later a block in Johor's J sequence; the match with Johor Bahru's initials is a bonus.
