A special Kedah series that coincidentally reads as “KFC” – identical to the famous fast-food chain’s acronym. In early 2021, JPJ Kedah’s normal plate sequence reached ‘KFC’, and the state capitalized on it by opening KFC 1-999 for bidding. The response was enthusiastic (and amused); not only did locals bid, but franchise owners and fans nationwide joined in. Results showed KFC 7 went for RM52k, KFC 8 and 9 at RM48k each, and KFC 3 at RM45k. Essentially, what would have been ordinary Kedah registration “KFC” turned into a lucrative special series. All 999 numbers were snapped up, many by KFC outlets or playful collectors. This one-off sale poured significant revenue into the state (reportedly making “KFC” one of Kedah’s highest-grossing plate series). Now that the sequence has passed, no further KFC plates will be issued. These plates serve as a quirky example of serendipity in number plates – a normal prefix turned marketing goldmine.
