Series Overview

SABAH FD refers to the green FD plates that Sabah's Forestry Department issues to logging vehicles. Under Rule 20B of Sabah's Forest Rules 1969, any tractor, truck or other vehicle used to extract or remove timber from a forest reserve or state land must be registered with the Chief Conservator of Forests and must carry a number plate of the size and description the Chief Conservator requires. The rule was already in force by 1975, when it was amended, and each registered logging vehicle has its own Forestry Department registration book.

The FD plate is carried in addition to the vehicle's ordinary JPJ registration. Europlate photographed examples in Sabah in 2010: a Sandakan-registered Nissan Diesel lorry, SS 1038 K, carried a second plate reading FD 01 2166, and another plate read FD 01 2195, both in raised white characters on green. A reader later identified them as Forest Department plates for lorries licensed to carry logs or sawn timber.
