Model-specific vanity plates for Proton’s “Satria” hatchback (launched 1995). As with other 1990s Proton model series, SATRIA 1-9999 were offered during the mid/late-90s to new Satria buyers and for promotional use. The Satria, being a popular compact (and later used in rallying), saw decent uptake of these plates. In the late ’90s, it wasn’t unusual to see a sporty Proton Satria GTi bearing a “SATRIA” plate, underscoring the car’s identity. Roughly 10k numbers were allocated, but it’s unclear if all sold out. Over the years, many original Satria cars have been scrapped or exported, taking the plates out of circulation. Surviving SATRIA plates are a novelty – often kept by Proton collectors who might transfer them to restored units of the car. Since Proton no longer issues such named plates, SATRIA stands as a nostalgic reminder of the era when owning a national car with a matching model-name plate was a statement.
