A double-letter vanity series “UU” released in 2018 (Putrajaya/Federal Territories). After the success of “U” and “XX/YY,” JPJ or its agents rolled out “UU” to meet continued demand. UU 1-9999 were sold via eBid in mid-2018. The visual symmetry of “UU” (which could resemble W or stand for “Utara-Utara” etc.) made it interesting. However, coming just before the halt of private series, UU wasn’t heavily promoted. Still, some noteworthy bids occurred – UU 8 and UU 88 attracted bidders who like the double-eight motif. The series was completed by the grace period’s end in 2019. UU plates are transferable normally. They’re part of the quirky set of repeating-letter series that include U, UU, UUU. In particular, “UUU” launched shortly after in mid-2018 via another foundation. Compared to UUU, the double-U was slightly less exclusive but still limited. As of now, UU plates quietly circulate, mostly on private cars whose owners value the short, unique prefix. They marked one of the final forays of non-JPJ entities into special plates.
