A new special plate series announced by Perlis in 2025. VIPS stands for “Visit Impressive Perlis State,” created in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Raja of Perlis’s reign and a state tourism push. Bidding opened 11–15 April 2025 on JPJ eBid. With Perlis being the smallest state, this vanity series was limited but symbolic. The Raja of Perlis was directly involved – VIPS 1 may have been reserved for the palace. Other top bids likely included VIPS 25 (25th anniversary) and VIPS 1998 (the year the Raja ascended). While nationwide interest wasn’t as high as for “VIP” Pahang, the acronym VIPS still attracted those wanting a unique twist on “VIP.” By end of April, Perlis reported steady bidding and decent revenue for its tourism fund. VIPS plates can be used on any vehicle, not confined to Perlis. They now join the pantheon of state-themed plates. For a long time, Perlis’s only vanity plate was “RR” in 2017; VIPS expands that legacy. Given the one-off nature and small state population, VIPS plates will be quite rare. They represent a proud moment for Perlis – asserting its presence with an “impressive” acronym on Malaysia’s roads.
