Series Overview
Trade plates let vehicles move on public roads before they are registered or while their documents are incomplete, for example a new car going from a dealer to an inspection. JPJ issues them under a motor trade licence to vehicle manufacturers and assemblers, new and used car dealers, repair workshops and importers, and each licence runs for a limited period.
In Peninsular Malaysia trade plates show a state letter, a number and a suffix, A for cars and S for motorcycles, in white on blue, with leading zeroes for numbers below 100. Kuala Lumpur switched in September 2013 to W/TP #### for cars and W/TS #### for motorcycles, and kept the W even after new Kuala Lumpur registrations moved to V. Sabah's trade plates use a ### D format in red on white, and Sarawak's are white on red.
