Series Overview

B_Q covers the old Sarawak B-format registrations that carried Q as a Sarawak suffix.

Before the 1991 Q-front system, Sarawak used older regional letters such as B, K, L, M and S alongside the divisional 6D and 7D formats. In that older map, B belonged to the Second Division area, now usually read through Sri Aman and Betong history.

The suffix Q was not decoration. It solved a recognition problem. Sarawak's old letters could overlap with formats used elsewhere in Malaysia and nearby jurisdictions, so Q was added to mark the registration as Sarawak before the later reform moved Q to the front of the plate.

That is why B...Q is different from an ordinary Selangor B plate. The B carries the old Sarawak regional identity, the serial identifies the registration sequence, and the final Q places it inside Sarawak's transition toward the modern Q system.

B_Q has a quieter appeal than the digit-D Sarawak plates, but it tells the same larger story: older Sarawak geography, format overlap, and the administrative shift that eventually produced today's QA, QB, QK, QM, QS and related Sarawak families.
