Series Overview
GOLD is the special series released for the golden jubilee of Federal Territory Day in 2024, fifty years after Kuala Lumpur became a federal territory in 1974. The Transport Ministry announced it on 30 January 2024, and bidding ran on JPJeBid from 1 to 5 February, starting on Federal Territory Day itself.
GOLD 1 went to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, for RM1.5 million. Transport Minister Anthony Loke presented the plate at Istana Negara, and the bid was then the highest ever paid for a Malaysian number plate. The record lasted three months, until the King paid RM1.75 million for FFF 1.
Numbers left after the auction were sold at JPJ offices for RM510 each, service fee included. The government later said the 2024 special series, GOLD, FFF, EV, PETRA and MADANI, raised RM45.9 million, half of which went to transport-ministry programmes such as MyLesen driving licences for low-income groups, free helmets and FLYsiswa flight subsidies for students; GOLD proceeds also covered the remaining 10% of insurance contributions for self-employed drivers.
