H

Series Overview

H is the special registration series JPJ released for Malaysia Day 2026. The letter stands for Harmoni (harmony), chosen to reflect the diversity and unity the day celebrates, and the run covers H 1 to H 9999 on the normal black private plate. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli described it as the last single-letter series the department will offer.

Bidding opened on JPJeBid on Malaysia Day itself, 16 September 2026, and closed at 10pm on 20 September, with results published the next day. Minimum bids followed JPJ's five-tier structure: RM20,000 for golden numbers, RM5,000 for premium, RM2,500 for attractive, RM500 for popular and RM300 for regular running numbers. Winning numbers must be registered to a vehicle within 12 months of the official result letter.

The auction broke every JPJ record. It collected RM91,206,642 (RM89,266,542 in bids plus RM1,940,100 in service fees) from 34,664 bidders, with 8,223 numbers taken up, more than two and a half times the RM34.3 million raised by FF in 2023. H 1 went for RM10,777,777, far above the previous single-plate record of RM1.75 million for FFF 1 in 2024. The other single digits followed: H 9 at RM4,969,999, H 3 at RM4,209,777, H 5 at RM4,007,777, H 8 at RM4,000,000, H 6 at RM3,380,000, H 2 at RM3,180,000, H 7 at RM3,100,000 and H 4 at RM2,437,777. The most contested numbers were H 100 and H 1001, with 37 bidders each.

The letter has an obvious association, because Malaysian taxis are identified by H for hire. JPJ drew the line clearly: taxi registrations always pair H with a state letter, such as HA for Perak or HW for Kuala Lumpur, and use a white plate, while this series is H on its own. Transport Minister Anthony Loke still linked the proceeds to that heritage. Half of the net proceeds go to the Federal Consolidated Fund and half to transport-ministry programmes, and he said the H money would be used to help taxi and hire-car drivers.

The idea that a standalone H was once a taxi registration, sometimes dated to 1906, is not supported by any record. H has marked hire vehicles since the Straits Settlements era, but always alongside an area code (Singapore's SH taxi prefix survives from that system). Malaysian taxis moved to the H-plus-state format from the 1980s. Before 2026, no plain H series had been issued.
